WHO WE ARE.

STEERING (1).png

… to ensure sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice for all people through policy advocacy and movement-building. We were founded in 1989, and reinvigorated in 2014 as the unifying voice for all those who fight for bodily autonomy in Louisiana.

LCRF’s work involves advocating for policy change, engaging with elected officials, and mobilizing community around reproductive health, rights, and justice in Louisiana.

Our work for reproductive freedom does not end with abortion access. We know that attacks on bodily autonomy especially hurt black, brown, and trans bodies. We are deeply connected to movements for racial justice, LGBTQ rights, and other social movements impacting individuals from marginalized groups and communities.

… on different forms and evolved over our first 25 years. The most recent iteration of the Louisiana Coalition for Reproductive Freedom was formed in 2014 to respond to proposed changes to the licensing regulations of abortion clinics. Concerned individuals and organizations came together and quickly mobilized to generate public comments and to force the Louisiana Department of Health to hold a public hearing. In a matter of only a couple of weeks, the Coalition generated nearly 10,000 public comments and provided expert testimony at the hearing.

Since then, the Coalition has continued to work together to respond to legislation aimed at restricting access to abortion. This work was formalized in 2019 when the LCRF leadership secured funding to develop a plan for formalizing our work and to build the infrastructure needed to be a staffed entity capable not only of strengthening the work of our members, but also moving our own strategic programming to help build the statewide movement. LCRF is proud to be a fiscally-sponsored project of Foundation for Louisiana.
