LCRF Capital City
LCRF Capital City, formerly known as NOWBR, works to advance reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, and reproductive justice in Baton Rouge and across Louisiana. The organization connects community members with resources, education, advocacy, and opportunities to take action. Its work recognizes that reproductive freedom is connected to racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, healthcare access, and economic justice.
A Little Bit About Us!
The National Organization for Women Baton Rouge (NOWBR) has a long history of community organization. In 2026, under the leadership of Casey Carr, NOWBR merged with LCRF, becoming LCRF Capital City. NOW was founded nationally in 1966 during the rise of the modern women’s right movement. Its founders wanted to challenge discrimination against women in employment, education, politics, and other areas of society.
From its founding, NOW focused on gaining equal opportunities for women and addressing issues such as workplace discrimination, reproductive rights, equal education, and violence against women. The movement eventually spread throughout the country through local chapters, including NOW Baton Rouge. The Baton Rouge chapter became part of this larger effort by bringing national women’s rights issues into the local community since the early 1970s.
Over the years, NOWBR has continued to advocate for women’s equality and other civil rights issues. The chapter’s work has included concerns such as reproductive rights, economic justice, racial equality, LGBTQIA+ rights, and preventing violence against women. As LCRF Capital City, we will continue advocating for equality, equity, and accessible healthcare.
LCRF Capital City Community Programs
Community Education & Resource Sharing: LCRF Capital City connects community members with information and resources related to reproductive health, bodily autonomy, and reproductive justice.
Advocacy & Legislative Action: The organization supports community advocacy around policies affecting reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy. Members can participate in legislative outreach, public education, rallies, campaigns, and other grassroots actions designed to influence policy and protect reproductive rights.
Community Organizing & Movement Building: LCRF Capital City helps build a stronger local movement by connecting people and organizations working for reproductive justice. The broader LCRF network supports coalition-building, leadership development, skills training, and collaboration among reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations.
Get Involved
We are always looking for volunteers to help support and run programs! Volunteers help with a wide variety of programs and initiatives including:
Distribute Resources — The office operates a local mutual aid network that delivers free emergency contraception, condoms, and pregnancy tests to the Baton Rouge area.
Tabling & Community Education — We frequently host tabling events at local community spaces to share sexual health education materials. Volunteers are needed to run these tables, raise awareness, and speak with community members.
Direct Mutual Aid Funding — All donations are so appreciated and anything helps! 100% of local donations go directly toward buying materials like Plan B, pregnancy tests, and covering community tabling fees.
